  1. This is not the prime time for Somalia to involve itself in mediating between other countries at conflict. The reason for saying so is quite simple: those countries are established nations while Somalia is anything but. Somalia is not yet a properly functioning democracy with all institutions of government in full operation. This means it is not as yet in a position to navigates its way through the complexities of international relations and diplomacy like other established nation-states.

The key jeopardy for Somalia happens to be its own leaders who are pretty much unsophisticated in the dirty game of global politics and diplomacy. They pose the greatest risk to themselves and the country’s interests as a consequence of their own inexperience and untested expertise. Engaging in mediation between long-established nations has deep and often dangerous implications, including the risk of indebtedness and blackmail which leads to countries being sold out in numerous ways to the highest bidder in that game after succumbing to diplomatic threats.

The current leaders seem to be getting way ahead of themselves and this country’s capabilities and should refrain from exposing our nation at this crucial stage of its recovery. Instead, they should focus solely on the vital task of enabling our country to attain its statehood and establish itself as a fully functioning democracy that is strong enough to withstand the powerful gales of international politics, relations and diplomacy.
