A statement from the Somali presidency said another meeting between President Farmajo, heads of the federal government, regional administrations and the Benadir region was scheduled for the 15th of this month.
The conference will take place in Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland, and will be chaired by President Farmajo, according to the statement.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, has convened a meeting of Heads of State and Government in Mogadishu on electoral issues. The conference, which will open on February 15 in Garowe, Puntland State of Somalia, is a culmination of the implementation of the agreement reached by the National Consultative Council in Mogadishu on 17 September 2020, ”the statement said.
The statement also said that the federal government will work to ensure that the country has free and fair elections, and that the issues that created the conflict are discussed.
The president’s announcement comes at a time when the presidency has announced that President Farmajo has convened a special meeting of the speaker of parliament.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and the Speaker of the House of the People discussed the situation in the country at the State House, and focused on holding elections in the country,” the statement said.
